I DO NOT KNOW THE ENDING
Leaving behind the palaces of my youth, in search of truth, and crashing my way down from all those previous comforts, I found myself strapped into place on a moving chair. With eyes closed I dove into unknown. Only in the blinding silence of my shame did the world open up, as if in a song
One more day my brother
For you are not alone
give me your hand and
ill do my best to show you the road
For each of us has more to say
Our truest selves are hidden away
our canyons and moles often have
the most to say
So ease up that struggling mind
and know we're all in pain
let your one true form free
even though words
and thoughts have tucked it away
For the Lord isn't found up high in the lofty palaces of decadence and luxury. Or in the passionate ecstasies and blazing fires of drinking and sexuality. No the spirit is down low, humming to comfort those in pain, moving through the hearts of those who show patience and caring. Growing our lives with confidence and purpose that only a belief in God's divine love can provide.
Thus the Lord says to us all, you are a human being and you must speak with Truth. For I the Lord already know the truth in your heart, but i demand you recognize your truth, and I demand you control your own actions with this truth. Find me in humility and your heart will be filled with sympathy and compassion, and you will love your fellow man saying, let us both help each other, as we work through this mystery of life. Close your eyes and fall into the wave of God's Love and Peace. Allow yourself to let go and be moved by your inner space.

Joe- I like what youʼve written here and itʼs inspiring to read something so heartfelt. It
ReplyDeletemight flow better if you format this as a poem or a prayer. Maybe you could even focus
on the idea of walking along a path- the path of truth that leads to God or something. I
cannot really help you with the form or style of the piece but what I can do is “critic” the
overall ideas. My main recommendation is to think through the imagery and make sure it fits with the ideas you lay out.
'Leaving behind the palaces of my youth, in search of truth' - I like this line a lot.
'and crashing my way down from all those previous comforts'- my observation of these “comforts” has been that they hold people back from realizing their true selves. I prefer to imagine rising above these things- letting your spirit take flight.
'I found myself strapped into place on a moving chair'- you talk about setting your true
self free but this line makes it sound like you feel trapped.
'With eyes closed I dove into unknown. Only in the blinding silence of my shame did the world open up, as if in a song'. I like this imagery. Through silence we discover God’s hopes for us and find our voice.
'Our truest selves are hidden away...Let your true form free'- I like what youʼre getting at here. Children know who they are. As we grow up, we learn societyʼs expectations for us and some people try to live other peopleʼs dreams but it’s painful to try to embody someone else’s dream.
'No the spirit is down low, humming to comfort those in pain, moving through the hearts of those who show patience and caring'. I like the movement of this. It does not create an image of a personified God- itʼs a God that is alive in all of us.
'Thus the Lord says to us all...you must speak the Truth'. But here you personify God. God doesnʼt speak- it just is- like silence.
'For I the Lord already know the truth in your heart, but I demand you recognize the truth'- You make it sound like there is as a man in the sky making demands. I don’t think of it so much as a demand but that we must discover it for ourselves.
'and I demand you control your own actions with this truth'- Another take on this could be that discovering the truth is not an intellectual thing- it must be lived out through our actions.
'Close your eyes and fall into the wave of God’s Love and Peace. Allow yourself to let
go and be moved by your inner space'. We have to let go and allow ourselves to fall. This is the only way we can feel the love of the present moment. Another thing about letting go means channeling yourself towards things that bring you closer to God. Letting go might very well mean making tough choices- letting go of experiences, people, or material comforts. Making commitments- clearing out the clutter- pruning back the branches so that you can bear fruit. We don’t really equate letting go with committing yourself but I think they are very related.
Did you make the title I do not know the ending because you wanted help with the ending? Whether it is intentional or not, I think the title gets to the heart of what youʼre saying. Thatʼs the whole thing- we donʼt know the ending. We can choose to align our decisions with truth, but we cannot control the outcome. It’s in “God’s hands”. Maybe if you went with the idea of walking down a path, you could make the title something like “a blind man's trail”. Another potential title could be “The silent song”.
So I hope this has been somewhat helpful. I really enjoyed reading this and having a forum where we can talk about these ideas. I have high hopes for this little blog weʼve got going! -Ari
Hey Joseph,
ReplyDeleteNicely done; I enjoyed this.
Leaving behind the palaces of my youth, in search of truth, and crashing my way down from all those previous comforts,
[This makes me think of trouncing your way down from a fortress on a hill-- I’m curious; what type of comforts?]
I found myself strapped into place on a moving chair.
[this line collides with the previous image and confuses me a bit]
With eyes closed I dove into unknown.
[standing again – diving off of the fortress cliff- interesting]
Only in the blinding silence [sight/hearing- got caught up there a minute] of my shame did the world open up, as if in a song
One more day my brother
For you are not alone
give me your hand and
ill do my best to show you the road [nice thought]
For each of us has more to say
Our truest selves are hidden away
our canyons and moles often have
the most to say [really enjoy this part]
So ease up that struggling mind
and know we're all in pain
let your one true form free
even though words
and thoughts have tucked it away
[hmm interesting…]
For the Lord isn't found up high in the lofty palaces of decadence and luxury. [My brain automatically links this with the original image of “palaces of my youth”—do you want that to happen? ] Or in the passionate ecstasies and blazing fires of drinking and sexuality. No the spirit is down low, humming to comfort those in pain, moving through the hearts of those who show patience and caring. Growing our lives [this makes me think of being outside of one’s own body] with confidence and purpose that only a belief in God's divine love can provide.
Thus the Lord says to us all, you are a human being and you must speak with Truth. For I the Lord already know the truth in your heart, but i demand you recognize your truth, and I demand you control your own actions with this truth. [I had to read this a few times to get it] Find me in humility and your heart will be filled with sympathy [or empathy?]and compassion, and you will love your fellow man saying, let us both help each other, as we work through this mystery of life. Close your eyes and fall into the wave of God's Love and Peace. Allow yourself to let go and be moved by your inner space. [hmmm space is an interesting word to use there- makes me think of emptiness]
Thanks for posting!
